You can see what Canvas activities and resources your students have accessed in your course

  1. Enable the Activity Logs option if it is not in the left course navigation bar
    1. On the course homepage, click the Settings link
    2. Select the Navigation tab
    3. Find the Activity Logs option
    4. Click the Edit Course Navigation icon, it looks like 3 dots
    5. Select Enable

    6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save
  2. In the course navigation bar, click the Activity Logs link
  3. Click Open in New Tab 
  4. If necessary, in the Term drop-down list:

    1.  Select the term of the course you want to view activity for
    2. Click Change Term

  5. In the Course drop-down list, select the course you want to view activity for
  6. In the View by drop-down list, select how you want to view the information. You can either view by your students, User, or by a particular assignment or quiz, Assignment

  7. Click Next

  8. If you chose to view activity by User:
    1. In the User drop-down list, select the student. By default, the first student in your grade book is displayed
    2. If you are interested in activity for a specific date or date range, in the Start date (optional) text box, use the calendar to choose the first date of activity you are interested in
    3. In the End date (optional) text box, use the calendar to select the last date of activity you are interested in
    4. Click Next. This process may take a few minutes to generate results
    5. Depending on what you want to take a closer look at, click whether you want to Download Submissions, Download Quiz Submissions or Download Page Views to manipulate the results in Excel 

  9. If you chose to view activity by Assignment:

    1. In the Assignment drop-down list, select the assignment or quiz you want to view activity for
    2. If you are interested in activity for a specific date or date range, in the Start date (optional) text box, use the calendar to choose the first date of activity you are interested in
    3. In the End date (optional) text box, use the calendar to select the last date of activity you are interested in

    4. Click Next. This process may take a few minutes to generate results

      NOTE!

      Student names have been removed from the graphic to comply with FERPA regulations

    5. Click Download Submissions to manipulate the results in Excel
