If your Microsoft 365 Word is opening in dark mode with a black background and white text, you may need to change your Office Theme in your account settings. Dark mode can help to reduce eye strain when using Microsoft 365 Word. The dark page background does not effect how your document will print, or how anyone else will see your documents when they open them. You can turn Dark Mode on or off as you prefer.

  1. From the File menu, select Account.
  2. Under Office Theme, select Use system setting from the drop down menu.
