  1. If you're planning to travel internationally, you should be familiar with University policies and recommendations.

  2. When planning to travel somewhere that has unreliable or poor Internet access, especially overseas, it is important to ensure all required files and documents are backed up.
  3. If using Dropbox as your primary storage location for files, you should also save a copy locally on your device's hard drive (like your desktop).  This ensures that if you're unable to connect online, you can still work with documents and then copy them to your online storage when the Internet is available.
  4. While maintaining two copies is not optimal, it is the best way to try and prevent loss of information due to Internet connectivity and other situations.
  5. While you can generally access Dropbox resources using a browser, there may be some access issues when traveling overseas.  The governments of some countries, including China, may restrict access to Dropbox services. Use the following procedures if you are unable to log directly into dropbox.uncc.edu:

VPN via Cisco AnyConnect (Preferred method)

  1. Download and install the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

    1. Open a browser and go to vpn.uncc.edu

    2. Click the appropriate operating system to download

    3. Install client following standard configurations

  2. Launch the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

  3. In the connection field, type vpn.uncc.edu and click Connect

  4. Enter your NinerNET username and password

  5. Click OK

  6. Through a browser, go to dropbox.uncc.edu

  7. Click Disconnect when finished

Note

The Cisco AnyConnect client only needs to be installed one time.

IT recommends that the software be installed prior to leaving the country - contact the IT Service Desk with problems.
