Basic Page or Page
A piece of content that has a title and a body field. All pages should be placed in the menu.
Block
A block is kind of like a sticky note that lives in a specific location on every page or just a few pages. So you can have content that is displayed on every page of your site, but you only have to edit and maintain it in one place. Blocks do NOT have URLS.
See Create and Edit Blocks for more information.
Content
Any information on your site. It doesn’t matter if it is an image, a sentence, a paragraph, and mp3 or a video. Content is anything you put on the site for your users to read, listen to or watch.
Content Type
Content types are just like they sound–types of content on the site. Typical content types are:
Basic Page: This has fields for Title and Body and must go in the menu.
Directory: This has fields for Display Name (this is the title of the page), First and Last Name (for sorting purposes), Office, Email, Phone, an Image, and a Body field for the biography. The entries appear automatically on the Staff Directory Listing.
Events or Calendar: This has fields for Event Name, Start and End Date, Location, Sponsor and a Body for all the details. The entries appear on the calendar automatically.
News or Blog: This has fields for the Title, Date Published, and the Body field for the story. The entries automatically appear on a list with the most recent News/Blog entry on the top.
Display
A display is how the content is set to show up on a page. Some displays are created by views; others are created by other modules. Some displays are created by you when site managers when they add content to a page.
Menu
The site’s navigation. It is either horizontal with subpages listed in the left sidebar OR completely vertical in the left sidebar. Menus are NEVER in the right sidebar.
Horizontal Menu
Vertical Menu
Node
Any piece of content
Primary Site Contact/Primary Site Manager
Most of our sites have more than one site manager, but it is helpful to have one person serve as the primary contact for that site. This is who Web Support generally communicates with regarding site upgrades, changes, and Site Manager access.
Published/Unpublished
Content is generally published by default, which means people can see your content. If you have old content that isn’t accurate anymore, but you don’t want to delete it, you can unpublish it. Unpublishing removing the content from view: it puts a grey background on the page, pulls is out of the menu, and causes an access error if someone goes to that url and doesn’t have access to see unpublished content.
Region
Each webpage is divided into sections of the page where you can put blocks. For more on Regions see Create and Edit Blocks.
Site Manager
Person who has access to edit and create content on our Drupal websites.
Webpage
One page on a website
Website
Collection of webpages that are all linked together forming one website.
View
A module that is used to create dynamic displays like news/blog listing, calendars, and directories. Site Managers do NOT have access to views.
